Program
In mathematical work, a specific complex of themes is often at the center, which is then viewed from many different angles to approach a problem. This idea will be reflected musically: The Passacaglia is a musical form in which a theme is repeated throughout the entire piece and reworked again and again. In this way, new facets of the theme constantly emerge, allowing it to be heard in a variety of lights.
The concert will feature one of the most famous examples of this genre: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. Similarly, the French composer Louis Vierne presents a theme in vastly different contexts in his Carillon compositions—bell sounds transposed for the organ. Additionally, the cube will appear several times during the concert as a mathematical object: both as a random experiment and in the form of a Rubik's Cube.
